As mentioned in a previous update the existing DNS and shell server (Animal) is long past due for retirement.
Unfortunately with the number of services on that machine it is no simple matter to replace, so we'll be conducting the change in stages. Stage One changes will affect shell and (to a much lesser extent) FTP access.
Since the emergence of the Kaminsky DNS flaws we have been taking steps to update our BIND DNS servers to prevent the flaw from affecting our systems and customers. The last of those changes was made live Tuesday, July 29. Due to an oversight some customers were unable to resolve hostnames last night and early this morning. That has been corrected. More changes are on the way.
With the number of "phishing" style emails multiplying a reminder is in order as to your account security and our policies. It is important that everyone know what to expect and perhaps more importantly what not to expect from us.
The most important reminder: We do not need your password for anything and will never ask for it in an email.
Qwest is having circuit issues which are affecting all Qwest DSL connections. Symptoms include dropped connections and severe packet loss. Qwest has dispatched engineers to repair the circuit but no ETR is currently available. We will update this notice as conditions and information changes. Update: Qwest has resolved the majority of issues as of approximately 11am PDT. Qwest will be monitoring the circuits involved for the next 24 hours.
